Summary: While some books are timeless
Comment: While some books are timeless, others are totally out-of-date by the time they reach the market. This one is way WAY out-of-date, even if you agree with its foundational premise. In a slow market or recession especially, J. Goldstein's insightful review of this book is correct. Live by the net; die by the net. Note that all favorable reviews of this book are well over five years old. That's a lifetime in a techno-field.

I totally agree that widely-acknowledged #1 industry trainer Steven Finkel's wonderful DVD series "The Art of Recruiting" is the most effective and comprehensive product on real recruiting that exists. However, Larry Nobles' book "Search and Placement" combined with the 2008 edition of Mr.Finkel's book "Breakthrough!" have great (and enduring) merit as well. Unlike this past-tense book.

Summary: Live by the net; die by the net!
Comment: I wonder if it has occurred to REAL recruiters that AIRS main business is teaching HR people to find candidates and thus avoid paying your fee? If the candidate can be found in this way, what do they need recruiters for?

Moreover, the market is changing, and moving away from internet recruiting. In a less-than-boom market, unemployed candidates will flood the for-fee or for-free data bases. Because hiring is slow, unemployed candidates will stay that way for much longer. This enables clients to run ads or search the net, and actually find qualified candidates, with the help of the same internet trainers who hustle their services to our industry. For you to compete with your clients for the identical candidates available to them for a lot less than your fee is business suicide. If you Live by the Net, you will Die by the Net.

Personally, I like Larry Nobles' excellent book "Search and Placement" or his CD series. Alternatively, top industry trainer Steven Finkel's DVD series "The Art of Recuiting" is terrfic for the REAL recruiting HR people can't do.

I read this book cover-to-cover.I'm sure personnel people will love it.

Summary: Good for Online Recruiting.
Comment: One of the most useful books, with this you can search a candidate without joining a job board.

Summary: The best on ecruiting hiring technology
Comment: Published in 2003 it is still the best on ecruiting. Hope to see an update soon!

Comment: I have assigned this book to my graduate students in a Staffing class. I would not have assigned it if I did not think it was a good book.

However, I find myself telling them a few cautionary things:

1. Two weeks after the book came out, it was out of date. This field is moving very, very quickly and keeping up is a real chore...

2. The author is breathless and shameless in self-promotion. His writing style will remind you of why the dot-com bubble burst.

3. Many assertions are not backed up with organized study or proof.

4. It's still the best book I know of to cover this topic, unfortunately. If anybody out there knows of a better or more contemporary one, please post a review here...
